On Friday 4th July 230+ educators and community members will be joining the MBC Community for it's annual conference at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv. There is a jam packed schedule for the afternoon, including our traditional roundtable sessions, where members of our community, our friends in charities around the bay and our colleagues from further afield present their work in an intimate setting to stimulate conversation.

These sessions will be between 4.10 and 4.40 this year and if you are signed up to join us for the conference, you are welcome to register for a session ahead of time or on the day before 8pm on Thursday 3rd July!

Here is a brief summary of all of the sessions attendees can join!

Early Years Discussion

In-School Gardening, Rewilding Roots

Practical strategies for integrating food growing into the school curriculum, including identifying suitable planting spaces, managing time to tend growing plants within a busy timetable, and incorporating activities with your school’s climate action plan.

Exploring Climate Migration, Global Link

Room: Bowland North 12

This roundtable will explore some of the links between climate change and human migration and how to use participatory activities and discussion to address this important topic in the classroom.

After the Flood, Mary Brydon-Miller, Uni of Louisville

The FLASH initiative is a four-year National Science Foundation funded project based in the Central Appalachian Region of the US. A major thrust of the project is to use community-based research and education to increase understanding of flashflood risk.

Nature and Taking Action, Andy Harrod, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv

Together we will explore the importance of a place-based approach and the factors involved in encouraging young people to develop and sustain a reciprocal connection with nature.

Coastal Adaptation, JBA Trust

Room: Bowland North 18

The JBA Trust is developing more free resources to help people learn about coastal adaption to the impacts of climate change (sea level rise and increased frequency of storms which can cause flooding and erosion).

Engaging Students with Environmental Sustainability, LUSU Green

LUSU Green empower students to take action on the climate and ecological crises through volunteering, events and campaigns. Anna will outline various ideas that have worked well (and some that have not).
