Senior law lecturer appointed to judicial role
A ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv School of Law Senior Lecturer has been appointed a member of the judiciary.
Practising Solicitor and Director of Clinical Legal Education at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv Law School Sadie Whittam has been appointed as a fee-paid Judge of the First-Tier Tribunal assigned to the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber.
Head of the University’s School of Law Professor Bryan Clark said: “This is a fantastic achievement. Sadie’s appointment to the judiciary is recognition of her significant talent and legal experience.”
In 2023 Sadie was named Law Teacher of the Year by Oxford University Press, a prestigious award celebrating extraordinary teachers in law schools across the country.
She was nominated by two colleagues who described her as an ¡®exceptional, talented and gifted educator’.
Sadie specialises in civil litigation, dispute resolution and clinical legal education and she worked at leading commercial law firms in London and Manchester before joining the University.
Sadie has led the set-up of ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv’s community-focused, multi award-winning Law Clinics, enabling student advisors to provide hundreds of thousands of pounds of free legal advice to local people under the supervision of qualified lawyers.
In her position as Director of Clinical Legal Education, she has developed a suite of clinical legal modules.
Sadie leads Lancaster Law School’s Careers and Employability Provision, providing one-to-one support for aspiring lawyers, managing and organising internal activities and an external expert speaker programme.
